Claims Consultant
Claims consultants/specialists are professionals who work in the insurance industry. A claims consultant oversees the processing and review of insurance claims. Their main duty is to review and adjust insurance claim applications. They determine the validity of a client’s insurance claim and determine if they are eligible for coverage by their insurance policy. Claims consultants make sure that there are no fraudulent activities associated with the claim application. They check whether all insurance claims are legit and legal. When an unfortunate event such as an accident, robbery, or loss of life involving people with an insurance policy, the claims consultant is the first person they contact.
For one to be a claims consultant a degree in risk management or equivalent is required, however, it is not a pre-requisite. Some companies only require a matric certificate/high school diploma, paired with some experience in the industry, for you to become a claims consultant. You may start as an intern selling insurance policies to people then work your way towards being a claims consultant. A claims consultant must be observant and analytical in nature. Investigative skills are an asset to this job, there is a strong need to pay attention to details to the finite margin. A claims consultant has an average salary of R206,314 per year in South Africa.
The duties of a claims consultant

Qualifications and requirements
